About the e-label (QR code for wine labels)

Since December 2023, the European Union has implemented new legislation requiring wine producers to include a QR code on every wine label they put on the market. Despite the theoretical advantages for both sides, here at Oenos&co, we understand how important it is for you to stay focused on the daily care of your vineyards and wines, and that's why we take care of creating and supporting your electronic label (e-label).

What is a QR code?

A QR code (Quick Response code) is a type of barcode that can be scanned by smartphones and other devices. In the case of the new EU wine legislation, QR codes must be included on wine packaging so that consumers can access a wealth of information about the product simply by scanning the code.

Is a QR code the same thing as an e-label?

No, a QR code is the code that users need to scan in order to access the e-label, which is a web page that contains information about the product.

How can a consumer find a product if they don't have a QR code to scan?

In addition to the database that has been built exclusively for wine e-labels, Oenos&co has also had one of the largest databases for the Greek vineyard for a long time, through which you can search for wines using the filters that best suit your needs and tastes.

In what languages are the wine information available?

The information for wines that have e-labels with Oenos&co are automatically translated into your language of choice with just two clicks, from the 23 official languages of the European Union.

What information can a consumer collect from an e-label?

An e-label can contain information about the producer, the origin of the wine, the full list of its ingredients, its nutritional value, production conditions, and some tips for consumption. At Oenos&co, we have enriched the information table in an educational and useful way, always in compliance with EU regulations.

What about GDPR and user privacy?

User personal data is fully protected in accordance with EU regulations.

Do I have to pay to access wine information?

Access to e-labels is completely free to the public.

How many e-labels can I create?

There is no limit to the number of e-labels you can create with Oenos&co.

How many e-labels do I need?

You should be aware that consumers must be able to access an e-label for all wines produced after December 8, 2023,regardless of whether the year is the current year or not. This means that in 2026, it would be a good idea to keep labels from the 2024 harvest active, as they may still be available to the public.

How much does the e-label service cost?

You have the option of choosing either the QR package alone ("Oenos E-Label | QR"), which is available for €240, or in combination with the Oenos&co promotion package ("OenosFull | B2B Partnership") package, at a final price of €300,receiving a 18% discount on the total.

I am not familiar with technology, how will I enter my wine data?

We have made sure that the management environment for your e-labels is user-friendly and helps users who are not very familiar with computers. However, there is the possibility of technical support from us, by appointment.

In how many and which languages do I need to enter my data?

You only need to enter your wine data in Greek (or English). The platform then automatically translates the data you have entered into the 23 official languages of the European Union.

What are the penalties if I do not comply with EU labeling regulations?

The penalties for non-compliance with EU wine labeling rules vary from country to country, but in general, they include product recall, exclusion of the product or producer from foreign markets, financial penalties, legal consequences from actions that may be taken by consumers or competitors, and other indirect consequences such as damage to the producer's reputation, additional costs for redesigning and reprinting labels for non-compliant products, etc.

When is the deadline to create e-labels for my wines?

Compliance does not have a specific deadline. As soon as a wine is released on the market that has been produced after December 8, 2023, it must have an e-label. For still wines, "production" is considered to be complete when alcoholic fermentation has been completed and the final alcohol content and final acidity have been determined. For sparkling wines, production is considered to be complete when the second alcoholic fermentation is also complete, if they are produced by the traditional method. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

What information must be included on an e-label?

An e-label must include information about the producer, the origin of the product, the list of ingredients, and the nutritional value.

How do the additional features that Oenos&co's e-label offer benefit consumers?

In addition to the information required by EU regulations for compliance, an e-label with Oenos&co provides a wealth of additional useful and interesting information in a concise way that gives users a more complete picture of the product without being overwhelming.

Can I collect statistics about the users who scan my QR codes? What about GDPR and their personal data?

You can have statistics on the traffic of each of your e-labels, but the collection of user data is prohibited by the EU and is not offered as a service.

Can I try the e-label creation service without paying first?

If you are a producer, you can contact us for a presentation of how to use the platform and then be given the opportunity to try it out for free by creating e-labels.

Can I create the QR code but add the label details later?

Yes, although it is not recommended, you can create the QR code for the product you are interested in, download it to meet your needs such as designing labels, etc., and then come back and fill in the details for the product.

Can I cancel my subscription?

Yes, you can decide at any time not to renew your subscription with us. In this case, we will export your data and provide you with a file that will make it easier for you to continue with the provider of your choice. It is important to note that Oenos&co is committed to keeping the QRs you have created on the platform even if your subscription is no longer active, so that you are never legally exposed for non-compliance.

I am a wine producer from abroad, can I benefit from the privileges of your company's e-label creation service or is it only for Greek producers?

The ease of use of our platform and the aesthetic presentation of our e-labels can attract producers from abroad, who are welcome.

I am a producer but not of wine, but I want to incorporate a QR code on my product labels that will redirect to an e-label, can I?

If your product belongs to related categories such as alcoholic beverages (beer, spirits, etc.) or beverages (coffee, tea, etc.), then we would be happy for you to choose our platform to create e-labels.

I have already created e-labels with another provider, but I would like to continue with you, can we?

Yes, you can join us at any time. However, it is recommended that you first find out about the policy of your previous provider for your existing QRs after you leave.

Who are the recipients of the e-labels I will create?

While great importance is rightly given to the final consumer, it is worth noting that the creation of an e-label can be an important tool for wine professionals as well, whether they work in a wine shop, a restaurant or even an import company, helping the work of producers.

I don't want to change my label, how can I comply with EU regulations?

The EU requires wine producers to ensure that access to an e-label is available from the packaging of their product. This does not necessarily mean that the QR code that will redirect to this e-label must be part of the traditional wine label. The QR code can be added as a sticker to any part of the packaging.
